You’ve found 5e Jump Calculator, a small online tool designed to tackle a surprisingly fiddly D&D 5e rule: figuring out jumps.
If you’ve ever been the DM who halted the action to dig through the PHB, debated if that chasm is actually jumpable, or tried to remember which stats affect jump distance, this site is for you.
So, What Does This Site Do?
5e Jump Calculator is a simple online helper that takes the 5e jump rules and does the math for you.
You enter a few details about your character—including Strength, height, and situational modifiers—and the calculator immediately calculates your:
Long jump distance
Maximum high jump
Maximum reach during a jump
Other useful jump-related numbers based on the official rules
No guesswork, no mid-session rule dives—just clear results you can rely on.
Why I Built This Tool
This site was born from actual game-night problems.
As a Dungeon Master and player, I often hit the same situation:
A player asks, "Can I make that jump?" and the entire table stalls while we check the rules.
The 5e rules for jumping aren’t especially complicated, but they are easy to forget. I was tired of re-reading the same paragraph every few sessions, so I took the obvious next step: I wrote a little web app.
5e Jump Calculator was originally just a quick private tool, and then I decided to share it in case other tables were running into the same problem.
How the Calculator Handles the Rules
This tool follows the official Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition jumping rules as laid out in the core rules. In simple terms, it:
Uses your Strength score to determine base jump distances
Considers whether you have a running start
Factors in your height and reach where appropriate
Respects the rules as written, without adding homebrew assumptions
You never have to think about the math directly. The calculator does the work and shows you the result that matters at the table.
Making the Most of the Calculator
5e Jump Calculator is meant to be:
Fast enough to use mid-session
Accessible for beginners
Trustworthy enough for rules-focused groups
You can use it to:
Check whether a character can clear an obstacle before they commit
Plan interesting movement options during encounter prep
Resolve player stunts without bogging things down
Open the site, fill in the fields, and you’re done. It’s meant to get out of the way, not become the focus of the session.
Future Plans
Right now, 5e Jump Calculator is deliberately simple: it solves the jump problem and stops there.
In the future, I plan to:
Expand into other movement calculators
Support more edge cases and optional rules
Improve the layout and usability based on feedback
If you find a bug, or if you have an idea for improvement, I’d love to hear from you. This site is built to help real tables, and your feedback helps shape what it becomes next.
Thanks for using 5e Jump Calculator. Here’s hoping it keeps your sessions moving and your .
